Russell Stalzman teaches college speech classes. But in an article written for a religious journal, he draws on his experiences in an elementary school classroom to encourage those who have the job of publicly reading Scripture in worship. The article is entitled, “Everything I learned about being a lector I learned in the the third grade. He remembers how his teacher sat at her desk reading children’s chapter books to them. She brought these stories to life using only her words. He goes on to say, “Done well, the public reading of scripture is more than just Bible reading.
