Russell Stalzman teaches college speech classes.  But in an article written for a religious journal, he draws on his experiences in an elementary school classroom to encourage those who have the job of publicly reading Scripture in worship.  Being a lector.  Many of you have volunteered for this role here at Grace of God.

The article is entitled, “Everything I learned about being a lector I learned in the the third grade.  He remembers  how his teacher sat at her desk reading children’s chapter books to them.  She brought these stories to life using only her words.  He goes on to say, “Done well, the public reading of scripture is more than just Bible reading. It is hearing God’s story for us, and the reader reads life into it.” (more…)

Everybody seems to have their moment to shine.

 

Academy Award nominations were announced this week.  Even a nomination is a big moment for those in the film industry – a win of course is even better.  This is just the kind of recognition that young actors crave — that moment when Hollywood lights will reveal a star.  And millions will be watching . . .
