The Old Testament readings for the season of Lent these past several weeks have recalled the Old Testament covenants God made with his people. Most notably the covenants God made with Noah, with Abraham and Sarah, and with Moses.

It’s easy to see how our Gospel today fits with our Old Testament reading for today. In the Old Testament we hear about God’s disobedient children who were whining and complaining about the food in the wilderness. So God sent poisonous snakes to get their attention. And when Moses pleaded on their behalf, God instructed Moses to put a bronze snake on a pole and lift it up and when the people looked at it they were healed and saved. (more…)
