One of the things you hear at the beginning of Lent is what people are “giving up.”  The folks at Twitter did an analysis of things people say or “tweet” they are giving up for Lent.  Among the top ten things to give up are meat, sweets, fast food, soda, alcohol, swearing and chocolate.  And according to Twitter, the number one thing people are giving up for Lent:  Twitter.

The story of Jesus’ transfiguration is the final climax to the season of Epiphany.  Epiphany is all about God revealing his Son to us and in this strange event in which Jesus’ face and clothes shining bright, we find the ultimate epiphany – the one thing God is trying to show us.   In this story we find in the end Jesus alone as the one true epiphany of God.

Do you ever feel God has forgotten you and your problems?  That he isn’t listening or that he doesn’t care?  On our good days, we know we know God is always there.  But there are times we wonder if God isn’t on a long vacation or worse has is just simply ignoring us.  All of us have days like these.  (more…)
