You might say that I have a unique perspective on today’s Gospel. And it has nothing to do with my seminary training or biblical study of the text. There are few people in the world and I’m sure no one in this room, who can relate to this text with the same kind of insight and background that I have. Because I actually grew up in a home with a real live Mary and Martha.

Today’s Gospel is about a neighbor. It’s the very familiar story of the Good Samaritan. But maybe we should call it the story of the Good Neighbor because it’s not really about the Samaritans or the Jews – arch enemies in Jesus’ day. It’s not really about the priest and Levite who walked on by a man in need. Bottom line is that it is about a neighbor and a man who proved to be a good one.
